Internet safety

Internet safety
Who know's the story about the big bad wolf, well the big bad wolf is on the Internet. The Internet can be a wonderful resource for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other kids, and play interactive games. Kids who are old enough to punch in a few letters on the keyboard can literally access the world.
But that access can also pose hazards. For example, an 8-year-old might do an online search for "Lego." But with just one missed keystroke, the word "Legs" is entered instead, and the child may be directed to a slew of websites with a focus on legs — some of which may contain pornographic material.
That's why it's important to be aware of what your kids see and hear on the Internet, who they meet, and what they share about themselves online.
Just like any safety issue, it's wise to talk with your kids about your concerns, take advantage of resources to protect them, and keep a close eye on their activities.

Internet Safety Laws

A federal law, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), was created to help protect kids online. It's designed to keep anyone from obtaining a child's personal information without a parent knowing about it and agreeing to it first.
COPPA requires websites to explain their privacy policies on the site and get parental consent before collecting or using a child's personal information, such as a name, address, phone number, or Social Security number. The law also prohibits a site from requiring a child to provide more personal information than necessary to play a game or participate in a contest.
But even with this law, your kids' best online protection is you. By talking to them about potential online dangers and monitoring their computer use, you'll help them surf the Internet safely.
Bullies and mean girls have been around forever, but technology now gives them a whole new platform for their actions. The old "sticks and stones" saying is no longer true — both real-world and online name-calling can have serious emotional consequences for our kids and teens.
It's not always easy to know how and when to step in as a parent. For starters, most kids use technology differently than we do. They're playing games online and sending texts on their phones at an early age, and most teens have devices that keep them constantly connected to the Internet. Many are logged on to Facebook or Tumblr and chatting or texting all day. Even sending email or leaving a voicemail can seem old-school to them. Their knowledge of the digital world can be intimidating to parents.
But staying involved in kids' cyber world, just as in their real world, can help parents protect them from its dangers. As awareness of cyberbullying has grown, parents have learned more about how to deal with it. Here are some suggestions on what to do if this modern type of bullying has become part of your child's life.

Color theory

Basic Color Theory

Color theory encompasses a multitude of definitions, concepts and design applications - enough to fill several encyclopedias. However, there are three basic categories of color theory that are logical and useful : The color wheel, color harmony, and the context of how colors are used.
Color theories create a logical structure for color. For example, if we have an assortment of fruits and vegetables, we can organize them by color and place them on a circle that shows the colors in relation to each other.
fruit organized by color

The Color Wheel

A color circle, based on red, yellow and blue, is traditional in the field of art. Sir Isaac Newton developed the first circular diagram of colors in 1666. Since then, scientists and artists have studied and designed numerous variations of this concept. Differences of opinion about the validity of one format over another continue to provoke debate. In reality, any color circle or color wheel which presents a logically arranged sequence of pure hues has merit.
Three color wheels - Harris, Today, Goethe
There are also definitions (or categories) of colors based on the color wheel. We begin with a 3-part color wheel.

Primary Secondary Tertiary Colors
Primary Colors: Red, yellow and blue
In traditional color theory (used in paint and pigments), primary colors are the 3 pigment colors that can not be mixed or formed by any combination of other colors. All other colors are derived from these 3 hues.
Secondary Colors: Green, orange and purple
These are the colors formed by mixing the primary colors.

Tertiary Colors: Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green & yellow-green
These are the colors formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color. That's why the hue is a two word name, such as blue-green, red-violet, and yellow-orange.

 Color Harmony

Harmony can be defined as a pleasing arrangement of parts, whether it be music, poetry, color, or even an ice cream sundae.

In visual experiences, harmony is something that is pleasing to the eye. It engages the viewer and it creates an inner sense of order, a balance in the visual experience. When something is not harmonious, it's either boring or chaotic. At one extreme is a visual experience that is so bland that the viewer is not engaged. The human brain will reject under-stimulating information. At the other extreme is a visual experience that is so overdone, so chaotic that the viewer can't stand to look at it. The human brain rejects what it can not organize, what it can not understand. The visual task requires that we present a logical structure. Color harmony delivers visual interest and a sense of order.

In summary, extreme unity leads to under-stimulation, extreme complexity leads to over-stimulation. Harmony is a dynamic equilibrium.

Some Formulas for Color Harmony

There are many theories for harmony. The following illustrations and descriptions present some basic formulas.

1. A color scheme based on analogous colors
Example of an anaologous color harmony
Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel, such as yellow-green, yellow, and yellow-orange. Usually one of the three colors predominates.

2. A color scheme based on complementary colors
Example of a complementary color harmony

Complementary colors are any two colors which are directly opposite each other, such as red and green and red-purple and yellow-green. In the illustration above, there are several variations of yellow-green in the leaves and several variations of red-purple in the orchid. These opposing colors create maximum contrast and maximum stability.
A color scheme based on nature
color harmony in nature
Nature provides a perfect departure point for color harmony. In the illustration above, red yellow and green create a harmonious design, regardless of whether this combination fits into a technical formula for color harmony.

Color Context

How color behaves in relation to other colors and shapes is a complex area of color theory. Compare the contrast effects of different color backgrounds for the same red square.

©Color Voodoo Publications
Red appears more brilliant against a black background and somewhat duller against the white background. In contrast with orange, the red appears lifeless; in contrast with blue-green, it exhibits brilliance. Notice that the red square appears larger on black than on other background colors.

Different readings of the same color

©Color Voodoo Publications
If your computer has sufficient color stability and gamma correction (link to Is Your Computer Color Blind?) you will see that the small purple rectangle on the left appears to have a red-purple tinge when compared to the small purple rectangle on the right. They are both the same color as seen in the illustration below. This demonstrates how three colors can be perceived as four colors.

Observing the effects colors have on each other is the starting point for understanding the relativity of color. The relationship of values, saturations and the warmth or coolness of respective hues can cause noticeable differences in our perception of color.

Calf and lamb day

Wayfaring down the road. All you could hear was "Baa". Calf's and lamb's encircled the grassy area.

Passenger train sat in the steamy sun. As kids  wait for there tourtament to start. Family's take a journey around all of the study class's to have a look at what there kids had preasembled.

Stomping around all of the steak's. Tugging with all my streanth. As mint flashed before my eye's, Judging started 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. My chance of winning had been killed.

Screaming and shouting came from my mouth. As I started to  exclaim for mint. Mint's legs were the boss, As she ran in the opposite direction. As a scowl stuck to my face.

Paris

The sun set just behind a hill in the distance. As people swish past you on there unique bycicles. The Iffel tower stood up covering the land of Paris. The smell of fresh bread rolls filled the air as you walked by.  Walking past an entrance way you could see a black hat infront with a mining person in the back. But when the time was right you would be able to sit up on the highest hill and watch the sun set. Paris is a place were romance is found. Paris is were there is 1,000's of fancy restuarant's saround the town.

The Challenging Run

Pushing our way to the door.Trying to line up in a big long straight line. Stomping our way over to the cricket club. Mr Chittenden raised his voice. "Go and have a seat while you wait" centrys went by as we stay seated on the springy couch.

"9 year old boys and girls go and make your way over to the water trough" as Mr Chittenden bellowed. One foot in front of the other. Tension raced through my body. Glancing at my aquantince. I knew that is was going to me a challenging race. Setting a goal for my run. " On your marks get set go".

My heart was pounding as if I was a fish getting chased by a 4 foot long shark chasing me. I was a red strawberry. Feet pounding there was no stopping now. I was struggling to finish my race.

I was an oven that was cooking at 100 degrease. I was emagining that the grass was hot needle's poking my feet as i ran. As I started to sprint I saw a delicious white ice block in front of me. My feet were stinging with pain.

Movies here I come

Have you ever had a boring day at home and you want to go to the movies? We'll today my amazing friend read my mind. She picked me up and zoomed me to a room  with a big TV screen.

Strolling into the movies. Thinking about what delicious sweets to buy. Catching the smell of freshly popped popcorn. Convincing myself to have buttery yellow popcorn and a fizzy black beverage.

Sitting down listening to people munch on the popcorn and slurping there fizzy. The screen lit up.

Starting up the movie my eyes were focused on one thing, the screen. Bright colours flickered. Listening to the sound of the movie. "Snap" they caught the blue feathered bird. The lights flashe do and the movie was finished.

Monsoon flood

                                                        Monsoon flood

The girl woke up with the water lapping up against the cabin. The banks had broke overnight. Water flows inside the cabin. A pot gets dragged out into the deep flood. She leap's over to grab the pot.  She can see an island she paddle's towards the island. She yell's "help" "help". She runs over to the other side of the island. She can see an elephant. The elephant walked across the river. She think's that the elephant had escaped from a logging company. She could tell that it was a female because it did'nt  have tusk's. The elephant picked the girl up and put the girl on the elephants back. The girl had nothing to hold onto...

Swimming sports

                     Swimming Sport's

My race was coming up and I was really nervous. My stomach ate as much as it could get too. I stretched my arms until they could'nt stretch any more. I popped my google's on top of my brown layered head.

Mr chitterden yelled out "8 and 9 year old girls to the marshalling area. Walking over to the marshalling area I was suspicious about what place I was going to get.

I stood up on the box ready to start suddenly I wasn't feeling that confident. I had 100 butterflys floating inside me. I took a glance at my enemies. "On your marks" i'm not going to lose this "get set" oh no "GO".

Splash everyone dived in with a loud racket. I was in a big challenge with lots of other girls. We did a big streamline. We went to the top of the water and started to do freestyle. I was going as fast a penguin getting chased by a seal.

I wanted to get 1st but in stead I got 3rd place. I had ran out of breath. I jumped out of the pool. A frozen breeze ran across my back. My body shivered.

Nobody can stop me from getting 1st now.

One Paragraph on The Haunted house

The moon stay's still like a statshue shining on the scary haunted house. The ground shimers in the beautiful moonlight. It was pitch black. The scary house was right in front of me. I go in and start to approach the house. The wooden floor creeks when you move step by step.
